AOL Lists Top Web, Video, Moble Searches of 2008

Barack Obama, Paris Hilton and a pregnant man were hot on people’s minds this year, according to AOL’s annual lists of top Web, mobile and video searches of 2008.  The rankings are based on the people, places and topics that received the largest volume of Web and mobile search queries on AOL Search, and on Truveo, AOL’s leading video search engine.

With attention in 2008 focused on the US election and the economy the results were not surprising.  Barack Obama was the most popular search in the Newsmaker category (Politicians occupied 7 out of the top 10 spots on this category).  Other popular searches included failed and troubled financial institutions, and political advertisements, speeches, and events, such as Obama’s victory celebration.

Other top spot winners in their categories included American Idol, Britney Spears, and “how to write a resume.”  Not earning a top spot but in the top ten were the Olympic games (remember them?).

People also showed their desire to remain connected all the time with community pages being among the top mobile searches.  MySpace was the leading mobile search term followed by AIM (No. 2); iPhone (No. 3); MocoSpace (No. 4); and Facebook (No. 5).
