Net4Mac now available on iPhone (update)

Net4Mac has made its social network for Mac users available on the iPhone and iTouch.  Although the desktop version of this social network is free, the iPhone application is being made available for $4.99.

Net4Mac is targeted exclusively at Mac users and has over 12,000 registered members. While the iPhone version may appeal to current users who want to have a place to talk about their Macs, its cost may deter users who see other social networks available for free on the iPhone App Store. Net4Mac will be also competing against newer social platforms, such as WhoisHere, that take advantage of the iPhone’s geotagging capabilities.

Update: according to a statement issued by the company, the iPhone application will offer advantages over the website version including:

Better integration between Mac OS X technologies and the features.
Easy to access to the community from the Dock
Ability to send invitations using the iPhone AddressBook
Ability to add/remove members with public profiles to/from the AddressBook
Add a picture to a profile or a group from a webcam
See the number of messages in your dock (like Apple mail)
