MySpace launches MyDebates, Online Companion to 2008 Presidential Debates

MySpace and the Commission for Presidential Debates have launched an interactive companion to the 2008 presidential debates, MyDebates.org. The site has the usual social network components (forums, blogs, friends, etc.) along with features to allow people to get up to speed on the issues and compare theirs to those of the candidates.

Compared to other sites, such as ABC’s campaign MatchOMatic, I found the MyDebates.org interface to be refreshingly streamlined, easy to navigate and full featured. Without having to provide a log in or register, one can answer a question such as “How much to you care about Iraq?” and then, based on one’s answer, a more detailed question on that topic to see which candidate’s view most closely aligns with the user’s. After answering, the user is shown which candidate they agreed with along with how much of America agreed with them.

The site also offers state-by-state stats based on member input.  This piece will get better as additional people sign into the website and the debates get under way starting with the upcoming debate later this month between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden.
