Ontela announces support for additional social / photo sites; signs new carriers

Ontela today announced the launch of its PhotoCopter service, which enables cell phone users to instantly send photos to popular sites such as Flickr. In a separate statement, the company announcement that its picture transfer service can now send and save photos to eight new image sharing sites.

Carriers –Ontela sells its service to cell phone carriers, which then offer it to the end user- can now offer a feature that enables users to upload photos with a click of a button to sites including; Dot Photo, Facebook, Friendster, Kodak Gallery, Personal Grid, Picasa, SmugMug and TinyPic. The company had already supported Blogger, Flickr, Photobucket and Snapfish.

Earlier this summer Ontela signed agreements with Alltel, Cellular South, Cincinnati Bell, and nTelos. With today’s announcement, those companies are joined by new customers including; Alaska DigiTel, Appalachian Wireless, Bluegrass Cellular, Carolina West Wireless, Cellcom, Cellular 29Plus/Lyrix Wireless, Golden State Cellular, Illinois Valley Cellular, Inland Cellular, Leaco Rural Telephone, Northwest Missouri Cellular, Panhandle Regional Wireless Network, Thumb Cellular, and United Wireless.

“We are delighted to launch our PhotoCopter service with carriers that are so keenly focused on the customer experience,” said Dan Shapiro, CEO of Ontela. “Now their subscribers can rest easy knowing that their memories will no longer be trapped in their camera phones.”

This is likely to be good news to anyone who has been frustrated with the process of manually transferring photos from their phones to their PCs or doing one-off transfers by emailing the photos or uploading them to a website one at a time.
